I am going to write about something that I have been planning to bring forward at some point or the other. There is something illegal going on Fiverr and MANY buyers don't know about it. And it is going to end up biting the buyers in the back.
Are you looking to buy a logo reveal/logo intro gig on Fiverr? You might want to look around a bit before you hit the buy button on the gig you like. Chances are that it is an illegal template that has been pirated over Fiverr. Don't believe me? Read on.
If you look through the logo intro category on Fiverr, you will find thousands of logo intros. A lot of them are templates that have been downloaded and are being used on Fiverr. The designs are not meant for redistribution and require licensing. If you don't have a license of buying the template, you can land into trouble. Not only your money will be wasted on buying something that should not have been sold to you in the first place, you might have to take off your videos that are using that video that you have purchased from Fiverr. All that awesome branding and promotional content that you have paid for, a complete waste of time, energy and money. And there is no way to find out whether the templates have actually been purchased by the seller or have been downloaded illegally. Which is even worse.
However not all the sellers are frauds. There are some genuine people on Fiverr who spend their efforts in creating brilliant video intro gigs/templates that are sold exclusively on Fiverr and can give you the rights to use their designs on your logo intros. Now the question is how can someone find if the gig that they are ordering is genuine or illegal? There are some easy ways to find out whether the gig that you are purchasing is a template downloaded from a website or is the gig creator's original idea.
1 - If you see multiple users selling the same gig, it has to be a template because they have all downloaded it from the same website. Two different artists can never come up with the exact same design.
2 - Browse through the logo intros on Videohive and Pond5 and similar websites. Do some research before you purchase. It is your videos that are going to be reported for copyright infringement if someone spots your videos using the logo intro. So be careful.
3 - The best way is to directly ask the seller before purchasing the gig. That way you have a written proof from the seller regarding the authenticity of the design.
4 - If you are willing to spend a few extra dollars, you can even ask the user to send you the link to the original template so that you can even purchase the license to use the template/design on your logo.
Alternatively, you can report users that are using illegal templates. You just need to provide the link to the original template design on the external website. Providing screenshots of both the pages will also help. Alternatively you can even contact the person who is selling the original template and let them know that their creations are getting plagiarised on Fiverr.
